Gaston Day Varsity Boys Soccer earned its first win of the season Tuesday evening, battling back from a halftime deficit to defeat Pinnacle Classical, 2–1, in a gritty and physical match. The Spartans entered halftime trailing 1–0 but responded quickly after the break. Thomas Partlow found the back of the net early in the second half to pull Gaston Day even at 1–1 and shift the momentum in the Spartans’ favor. The match remained tied until the 70th minute, when Henry Lebioda ripped a shot into the upper 90 to give Gaston Day a 2–1 advantage. From there, the Spartans held strong defensively to secure the victory. Diego Valentin anchored the Gaston Day defense in goal, keeping Pinnacle Classical off the scoreboard throughout the second half to help preserve the win. The victory marked the first career win for Coach Richardson as head coach of the Gaston Day boys soccer program. With the win, the Spartans improve to 1–1 on the season. Gaston Day returns home Thursday at 5:30 p.m. to host Hickory Christian in a match rescheduled from last Friday.
